DEVILDRIVER Begin Mixing Debut Album
August 5, 2003DEVILDRIVER (formerly DEATHRIDE),the new Santa Barbara, California-based project featuring ex-COAL CHAMBER frontman Dez Fafara, have tapped Greg Reeley (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD) to mix their debut album, "Straight To Hell", due later in the year through Roadrunner Records.
"We should be starting to mix the album before Wednesday of this week," Fafara writes on the band's official web site. "We were extremely excited to hear his mixes (the low end is exactly what I always wanted). I also received artwork from [legendary tattoo artist] Paul Booth, logos and the front cover...and they are impeccably perfect. We are now in the home stretch.
"On another note, for those of you who keep addressing the fact we have a stand up bass, we decided more than 4 months ago not to have it. It just wasn't fitting with the music, nor making it as heavy as we wanted. The bass player who laid everything on the album is named John.
"Oh, as for the nicknames, we want to be more personal with you, so we are all simply going by our first names from now on...of course, we throw all kinds of names at each other during rehearsals, but want to be first name basis with you all. The run down is this: Dez (vocals),John-B (drums),Evan (guitars),Jeff (guitars),and on bass, John-M."
The band, whose sound is being described as "much heavier" than that of COAL CHAMBER and featuring "more technical" musicianship than that found in Fafara's former band, recorded the album with producer Ross Hogarth, who has previously worked with COAL CHAMBER, MÖTLEY CRÜE, and FASTER PUSSYCAT, among others.
DEVILDRIVER will team up with DANZIG and SUPERJOINT RITUAL for the fall 2003 installment of the "Blackest Of The Black" tour, tentatively set to kick off in early October.
